Meaning:
Rejecting the Names and Attributes which Allaah has affirmed for Himself
Explanation:
Ta’teel has the meaning “emptying” and “abandoning”, just as in His statement, He the Most High:
- …a well which is mu’attalah…
Meaning: empty and abandoned.
And what is meant by ta’teel[1] is:
Rejecting the Names and Attributes which Allaah has affirmed for Himself, whether that be all (of them) or a portion (of them), and whether that is done by tahreef (distortion) or through outright rejection – all of this is called ta’teel.
So the ahl us sunnah wal jamaa’ah do not make ta’teel of any of the Names of Allaah nor of any of the Attributes of Allaah nor do they deny them; rather they affirm them with a complete affirmation.
