A Powerful Statement From Shaykh Taqiuddin Al-Hilali رحمه الله On Those Who Leave Arabic And Go After Foreign Languages

Learning a foreign language to benefit from it in religious & worldly affairs is a praiseworthy affair if it is not at the expense of the language of the Quran, like how the confused / doubtful inhabitants of colonized lands did so both before and after colonization.

As such, they neglect the language of the Qurân and it is the language of their Religion, history & their glory and honor. Also, they learn the language of the colonizers, become impudent with it, raise their noses with it (in arrogance), take pride in it, and they speak in this foreign tongue without any cause to do so whilst looking down upon their fellow countrymen due to the later not speaking this particular foreign language.

Such people in the body of the Ummah are like an organ that is affected by leprosy. Thus, it becomes incumbent to cut it off.

They know that all the other nations look down upon them because they can never gain superiority by learning a foreign language, unless they become proficient in their own language becoming useful members (contributors) to their Ummah, but (as the poet stated):

'Whoever is dejected, then degradation is easy upon him
As there is no pain from a wound for the one who is dead!'
