Imam Tabari and Istighaatha.

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

الحمد لله رب العالمين والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله وعلى آله وأصحابه أجمعين

This is going to hurt and cause some damage to the people of Shirk (barelwis and co).

Allah says:

وإذا مسكم الضر في البحر ضل من تدعون إلا إياه فلما نجاكم إلى البر أعرضتم وكان الإنسان كفورا

"And when harm touches you at sea, lost are [all] those you call upon except for Him. But when He delivers you to the land, you turn away. And ever is man ungrateful." -Surah 17:67.

Iman Tabari (رحمه الله) says:

"You've lost those who you call upon besides Allah from the rivals (unto Him) and deities...-ولم تجدوا غير الله مغيثا يغيثكم دعوتموه -and you will not find besides Allah any helper who can help you when you call upon Him..."

Need we say anymore? Where does this belief, that tabari has demonstrated quite clearly, stand with those who believe that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), Ali, Abdul-Qadir Jilani and others can help when called upon in times of hardship and distress?! Did imam tabari not know that they too can supposedly help?! For the people of Shirk, they seek help from Allah's creation in times of distress and hardship which only Allah can alleviate, as for the people of Tawheed, then they single out Allah in worship by seeking help (istighaatha) in Him alone!

Then imam tabari beautifully concludes that it is Allah who solely helps in these situations and saves the people, but the polytheists are ungreatful and resort back to their Shirk and turn away from what Allah has commanded them with from abandoning their deities and their refusal to (as per tabari’s words):

إفراده بالألوهة كفرا منكم

"Single Him out in uluhiyyah (worship) due to their disbelief."

Wahabism you say? No, by Allah, this is the very essence of Islam!
